San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.
One of the most beautiful cities in southern Mexico, surrounded by mountains and small Mayan indigenous communities. The city is full of rich and bright colors; in the flowers, food, clothing and art. The bright and crisp sunny days bring out the colors and make the city a sensational visual delight. For these reasons, the city is popular amongst European and American travelers, creating an eclectic and artistic community both of foreigners and natives. It is a far fetch from the Appalachian Trail but it is most definitely an adventurer's getaway. The jungle is a few hours south with ancient Mayan ruins full of religious temples and buildings. And I am definitely looking forward to discovering the flora and fauna of the jungle, capturing it with my camera and writing about them :)
I´ve been in Mexico for one week now. I´m staying with a lovely Mexican couple, their 15 year old daughter, and Bona, their adorable Golden Retriever. They have a beautiful home and have been extremely hospitable and great company. I will be here for another 6 weeks taking Spanish and salsa classes, improving my Spanish skills and learning about the Mexican culture and history. The last stint of my journey will be in the Cancun area where my cousin and her fiance decided to have their destination wedding.
Stay tuned for more commentary and possibly poetry on this grand country :)
