Virginia Summer Greetings!

Mama Chapman or "Mama Gaucha" is here with me in Waynesboro, VA at the Grace Lutheran Hiker Hostel. We are about to head up north to Baltimore to visit family. I'll be off the Trail for the next four days spending time with family in Baltimore and my sister in D.C. and I'll be back here in Waynesboro to start "aqua blazing" with some hiking friends. Nine of us will be traveling via canoe up the Shenandoah River from Waynesboro to Harpers Ferry, WV-about 160 miles. My feet are looking forward to the break! And I'm looking forward to changing my mode of transportation for a bit :)

Conservation Fundraiser

The Appalachian Trail stretches across 14 states, from Georgia to Maine, and covers 250,000 acres. It makes up some of the largest areas of forestry in the Eastern U.S. and is home to thousands of diverse species of wildlife. Beginning April 3, I will start hiking the 2,175 mile long Appalachian Trail and begin writing my Appalachian Trail tales on this blog. I am asking friends and family to help support me by donating money to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, a non-profit organization that helps support the Appalachian Trail. Specifically, the money will go towards understanding the changes of the Appalachian Trail environment due to global warming, invasive species and human impact, and developing ways to help sustain a healthy AT environment.
