As I was walking...

As I was walking,
a black capped chickadee
flew beside me.
She sat perched right there,
an arm's reach from my ear
singing to whoever was listening.

I sang back,
asking her what song
she was singing,
and to who.

She tilted her head,
flew close to me
and gave a couple
chick a dee dee dees.
And then a couple
chick a dee dee dee dees.

I smiled, tilted my head
and sang a thank you,
and then a goodbye.
I still couldn't tell
if she was singing to me
or to who?

I'm almost 300 miles into the Trail, taking a day off here in the lovely town of Hot Springs, NC. I just celebrated my month long anniversary on the Trail yesterday! I can't believe it's already been a month! For the last 20 miles, I've been enjoying the company of an old college roommate and friend, Tim and his lovely dog, Ayden. They came up to visit me from Charlotte, NC to do a section hike with me. We had a great time together (in the rain) and saw some beautiful orchids called Lady Slippers. We ended it with some good microbrew beer from Asheville NC and good grub!
I'm two weeks away from "Trail Days," a weekend long festival of the Appalachian Trail held in Damascus, VA where lots of hikers get together to have some fun :) Damascus will mark 1/4 point on the Trail! Afterwards, I'm taking a few days off in Charlotte to spend some time with my friends Tim and Ayden and my adopted sister Rosie (or in Grandpa's words, Tall Girl), and of course, to RELAX!!!!! My body is definitely getting into "hiker shape" as I'm increasing the miles to about 15 a day but it will be good to relax and rest and eat fresh food!
I hope you are all well and enjoying the May flowers as they come up!
Much love,
Gaucha
